Monday, Muddy Monday

On Friday, server problems prevented us from updating with an enigmatic press release we received:
With less than a week until Election Day, former San Jose Vice Mayor George Shirakawa was once again the subject of an attack "hit piece" by one of his opponents for the 2nd District seat on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. In a tactic commonly used by candidates trailing in the polls, Alum Rock Union School District Trustee Frank Chavez used half-truths and innuendo in a mailer attacking the former vice mayor.

Longtime observers of county political campaigns are wondering how the attack ad was funded. Chavez has failed to file his campaign financial records to the California Fair Political Practices Commission as required by State law.
Then, over the weekend, a kind soul faxed the very piece to us. (Click for bigger versions.)

The back of the flyer.

The front of the flyer.

To answer the question: no. He's not the next Ron Gonzales. It's a dubious parallel to begin with, but particularly because Gonzales was ultimately exonerated.

And who is that bald guy toting Shirakawa around? Aren't special interests supposde to be fat cats? What, did this guy spend a lot of time in the gym?

Why would Frank Chavez make a nasty hit in a race he can never win? When Richard Hobbs gets dirty, at least it seems like he might have a chance. Chavez doesn't have a bat's chance in hell. Which is an expression that doesn't really make a lot of sense, either.

Long story short - a muddy, dirty campaign cycle is wrapping up tomorrow. Lucky for San Jose Revealed, this is only the primary. We'll have plenty of good stuff from this to last us through November.
